Course Overview
This course is aimed at learners not yet employed or volunteering in a school or college, as well as providing initial training and induction for those new in post in primary schools, secondary schools, special schools or colleges.
This qualification is an introduction to the information and knowledge needed to work in a school or college environment. It can apply to the many varied roles that full and part time support staff may fulfil including administrative roles, site support roles, technical roles and volunteers, as well as roles that work directly with children and young people in the school environment.
You will attend class for 3 hours per week for 25 weeks. A further 3 hours per week will be required for homework, independent study and research.
Prosp Overview
You will need to attend a pre-enrolment interview. You will need to possess a level 2 English qualification (GCSE or equivalent) or be working towards it. It is recommended that you have a qualification in Maths
You will need good ICT Skills an electronic tablet, PC or laptop with good internet access to support the completion of work and assessment tasks on Moodle, which is Oldham Lifelong Learning’s virtual learning platform.

There is no end of course examination.
You will complete a variety of on-going assessment tasks on Moodle, which is Oldham Lifelong Learnings virtual learning platform.

• Safeguarding children and young people
• Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults
• Equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people
• Schools and colleges as organisations
Prosp Content
The Award shares some mandatory units with the Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning Certificate, providing a direct progression route, should you gain voluntary/work experience.
Oldham Lifelong Learning Service offers a range of complementary courses with and without a qualification, to support your training and future development.

Your tutor will discuss your next steps with you and you will have access to a Careers Adviser from National Careers Service.
