Course Overview
This course will help develop an understanding of dementia. It is ideal for anyone working or considering a career/volunteering in health and social care – or those with an interest in this area.
Prosp Overview
It is recommended that you possess a Level 1 literacy qualification or equivalent and have an interest in the social care field. You will need good ICT Skills an electronic tablet, PC or laptop with good internet access to support working on Moodle which is Oldham Lifelong Learning’s virtual learning platform.

There is no end of course examination. Assessment will be complete on Moodle and/or in a workbook covering all the learning outcomes of this qualification which is produced by the awarding body. Each candidate is required to complete these assessments which includes a variety of short and long answer questions. All will be assessed by your assessor and a sample of your completed work will then be externally moderated by the awarding body.

The course consists of one mandatory unit which covers:

Know the main causes and effects of dementia
Understand the importance of a person-centred approach when working with individuals with dementia
Effective communication for individuals with dementia
Prosp Content
You can progress onto other related courses with or without qualifications to support your training and future development including L2 Award in Awareness of Dementia.

Your tutor will discuss your next steps with you, and you will have access to a Careers Adviser from National Careers Service.
