Course Overview
This course is ideal for anyone working or wanting to work in a school or with children and young people. The aim of the course is to develop an understanding of autism. You will also develop an understanding of how to support individuals to live a healthy and fulfilled lives.

This course is delivered online over 12 sessions – dates and times to be confirmed by your Tutor on the first session. You will be expected to attend live Teams/Zoom sessions and complete activities on Moodle which is Oldham Lifelong Learning’s virtual learning platform and E-assessor. You will be required to work to specified deadlines.

You will need to demonstrate effective English skills to meet the demands of this course, so need to have, or be working towards, a level 2 English qualification.

There is no end of course examination. You will be required to complete assessment workbooks online.

You will be required to use Moodle which is Oldham Lifelong Learning’s virtual learning platform.

There are 6 mandatory units:

1. Introduction to autism.
2. Using a person-centred approach to support individuals with autism.
3. Communication and social interaction in individuals with autism.
4. Sensory processing, perception, and cognition in individuals with autism.
5. Supporting positive behaviour in individuals with autism.
6. Supporting individuals with autism to live healthy and fulfilled lives.

Oldham Lifelong Learning Service offers a range of complementary courses with and without a qualification, to support your training and future development.

Your tutor will discuss your next steps with you, and you will have access to a Careers Adviser from National Careers Service.
