Course Overview
This course is for people who have an interest in working in schools or learners who are not yet ready to start a full qualification.
The aim of the course is to gain a basic knowledge of working with children in a school setting and to provide an introduction to the world of work.

Open Requirements

You will need a good level of literacy to be able to complete some written tasks and basic IT skills to access our Moodle Learning Platform.

Open Assessment

There is no formal assessment and no examination. You will keep a learner diary and an Individual Learning Plan to track your progress and your tutor will give you regular verbal and written feedback which will show you how to improve.

The course may include some of the following topics:
• The skills and qualities required to work with children.
• The roles and responsibilities of a teaching assistant.
• Job roles available in schools.
• The National Curriculum.

Open Progression

There are progression routes onto childcare and teaching assistant courses qualifications. Your tutor will discuss your next steps with you, and you will have access to a Careers Adviser from National Careers Service.
