Course Overview
This is an informal course with an aim to encourage learners to join these sessions and become more confident in reading, to socialise and share an enjoyment of reading together.

This course will provide the opportunity to become more confident reading short stories and books, reading English for pleasure and discuss a variety of stories written by celebrities and famous authors.

The resources and ‘Quick Read’ books are supplied by the Oldham Library Service and are free to use while you study on the course.

You will improve your skills and become more confident and may even progress to a Functional English qualification class.
This is a bespoke course and a very enjoyable one!

Prosp Overview
You will be assessed at a ‘Skills Check’ session and will speak with the course tutor who will provide information, advice, and guidance. Many learners join this course without formal English qualifications.

Prosp Req
At the end of the course, you will have the opportunity to progress to an E1, E2, E3 or L1 Functional Skills English class. There is no formal exam on this course.
Prosp Assess
You will read a variety of texts. You will share your own opinions and thoughts through discussion. If you don’t feel confident enough to read aloud then you can listen to others read and discuss the stories and narratives you study.
Prosp Content
You will have the opportunity to progress to a Functional skills course, depending on your abilities, commitment, punctuality and attendance. You will also have the opportunity to enrol onto other vocational courses.

All learners are signposted to Get Oldham Working and The National Careers Service.
Prosp Progression
This course is free of charge for residents of Greater Manchester.
