You will demonstrate speaking and listening skills and reading and writing skills using some of the following topics:
• making appointments at the doctors
• identifying and ordering school uniform
• healthy eating and the English names of some foods
• how praise helps a child learn
• how to share books with children
• the language of maths – confusion between terms meaning the same such as add/combine/calculate – take away/subtract
• exploring unfamiliar/familiar celebrations such as Easter, Halloween, Valentine’s Day, Eid, Diwali, so that school events are more familiar and understandable.
There may be other themes important to the school, family or community which can be incorporated into the course.
Although correct grammar/spelling is encouraged, Family ESOL is more about having the confidence to use English to communicate.
