Course Overview
This course introduces learners to key Microsoft Office applications. Learners will develop practical digital skills by creating documents, presentations and spreadsheets. They will also learn how to use the internet effectively to search for information and stay safe online. These skills can help learners become more confident using technology and prepare them for further study, work, and everyday tasks. The course will run for the full academic year from September to July and learners are expected attend one class each week during term time.
Prosp Overview
Learners are required to attend a pre-enrolment interview to ensure they have the appropriate digital and literacy skills for the course. To arrange an appointment, learners should contact 0161 770 8026.
Prosp Req
Learners will work through a range of exercises and practical scenarios that cover the learning outcomes required by the awarding organisation. The work they produce will be assessed by their tutor. Guided activities will also be provided to support learning and can be completed at home. There is no formal test or end-of-course examination.
Prosp Assess
The course covers the following 5 units at Entry Level 3:
• Word Processing Software –Type and format basic documents such as letters, reports, and CVs.
• Spreadsheet Software – Create simple spreadsheets, use formulas and functions and create simple charts
• Presentation Software – Create basic presentations using basic of text, images, and visual effects.
• Desktop Publishing Software (using Canva) – Create professional-looking publications such as posters and flyers
• Internet Software – Use the internet safely and effectively to search for information, access online services
Prosp Content
Completing the course is a significant achievement and can lead to a range of further learning opportunities. Learners may choose to progress to a higher-level Digital IT course or explore other programmes that develop skills for everyday life and work, such as English, Maths, and Employability Skills. Tutors and careers advisers will support learners in identifying the most suitable progression pathways and help them explore the learning opportunities available across Oldham to help them achieve their goals.
Prosp Progression
This course may be eligible for a range of fee concessions, which could result in it being free of charge for some learners. A free course offer is also available for employed learners who meet specific eligibility criteria. Where course fees exceed £70, learners may have the option to pay by instalments. Further information is available at www.oldham.gov.uk/lifelong. Learners should be aware that refunds are not available if they withdraw from a course. Any outstanding instalment payments will remain payable following withdrawal.
