The NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Specific Learning Difficulties is designed to help you develop your knowledge of conditions such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD and developmental coordination disorder (DCD/dyspraxia), and understand how to support individuals affected by them. Throughout the qualification, you will learn how specific learning difficulties are identified and diagnosed, the importance of early recognition, and the roles of the professionals involved in the assessment process. You will also gain an understanding of effective support strategies, reasonable adjustments, and approaches that can help individuals achieve their potential in education, the workplace and social settings. This course is ideal if you are interested in pursuing a career in education, SEND, health or social care, or if you are a parent or volunteer looking to enhance your knowledge and skills. It also provides a first step towards becoming a volunteer with Lifelong Learning, equipping you with the confidence and understanding needed to support learners in our classrooms.

You will need to attend a pre-enrolment interview. Please ring 0161 770-8268 to make an appointment. You will need access to a laptop or tablet with Internet access to complete your assignments online and access our online learning platform. Please speak to us if you do not have any digital equipment. You will need to have Level 2 English skills to meet the demands of the course.

You will be required to complete assignments online which will be reviewed by your tutor to ensure all performance criteria have been achieved. There are no exams, certification is gained through completion of assignments to the required standard.

The classroom-based courses will begin with a short Introduction to Volunteering in a classroom course. This course consists of a four-week introduction to the requirements and responsibilities of volunteering within one of our classes. On completion of this course, you will progress to the qualification. The qualification is made up of 5 mandatory units: -
• Understand Specific Learning Difficulties
• Understand the effects of Specific Learning Difficulties
• Understand the Diagnosis of Specific Learning Difficulties
• Understanding Supporting Individuals with specific learning Difficulties
• Understand the Context of Specific Learning Difficulties

Completing this qualification is a significant achievement and provides opportunities to progress to further learning. The NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Specific Learning Difficulties can support progression into a range of education, health, and social care roles where knowledge of additional learning needs is beneficial. It can help learners develop skills for positions such as Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, SEN Support Assistant, Early Years Practitioner, Support Worker, and Pastoral Support Worker. This course may be eligible for a range of fee concessions, which could result in it being free of charge for some learners. A free course offer is also available for employed learners who meet specific eligibility criteria. Where course fees exceed £70, learners may have the option to pay by instalments. Further information is available at www.oldham.gov.uk/lifelong. Learners should be aware that refunds are not available if they withdraw from a course. Any outstanding instalment payments will remain payable following withdrawal.
