Course Overview
This course is ideal for anyone working or looking to work in the health and social care sector or further develop existing skills and knowledge within this area. This qualification will provide you with a good understanding of the different aspects of Mental Health. The course is delivered via a blended learning model of delivery. You will be required to attend eight 2 hours sessions and complete work remotely to specified deadlines.
Prosp Overview
It is recommended that you have an interest in working with or supporting people with mental health issues as a volunteer or are employed in the health and social care sector. You will need to demonstrate effective English skills to meet the demands of this course and the distance learning elements. You will need to attend a pre-enrolment interview. This qualification is assessed by completing the supplied workbooks which are then reviewed by your assessor who will confirm that you have met the performance criteria. There are no exams to take but you must fully complete the assessment workbooks to the required standard to gain the qualification. You will be required to use Moodle which is Oldham Lifelong Learning’s virtual learning platform.

There are 3 mandatory assessments and you will gain an understanding of the following topics: Mental health awareness; Stress and anxiety; Depression; Phobias; Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder; Obsessive compulsive disorder; Post-traumatic stress disorder; Post-natal depression; Bipolar disorder; Schizophrenia; Dementia; Eating disorders.
Prosp Content
You may be able to progress onto various complementary courses and/or qualifications including: Adult Social Care Level 2 and Award in Mentoring Level 2. Your tutor will discuss your next steps with you and you will have access to a Careers Adviser from National Careers Service.

You may be eligible for a concession or help from the Discretionary Learner Support fund – please discuss this with our information, advice and guidance staff. We do not give refunds if you withdraw and you will remain liable for any outstanding instalments.
