Course Overview
This course is ideal for anyone interested in increasing their own understanding of mental health issues. It is useful for those working within the voluntary and community sectors or for people whose role calls for interaction with the general public. The course aims to raise awareness and understanding of ‘mental health’.
Prosp Overview
It is recommended that you possess a Level 1 literacy qualification so that you can complete the written work required. You will need to attend a pre-enrolment interview. Please telephone 0161 770 1383/1239 to arrange an appointment.
Prosp Req
A Candidate Workbook covering all the learning outcomes of this qualification is produced by the awarding body. Each candidate is required to complete the workbook, which includes a variety of short and long answer questions. All Candidate Workbooks will be assessed by your assessor and a sample of the workbooks are then externally moderated by the awarding body.
Prosp Assess
What is meant by ‘mental health’ – definitions and causes of mental health difficulties; Develop awareness of cultural diversity within mental health issues; Investigate barriers people may encounter when trying to access services; How to promote positive mental health.
Prosp Content
You can progress to the level 2 certificate in Awareness of Mental Health Problems or study other related courses such as Health and Social Care. Your tutor will discuss your next steps with you and you will have access to a Careers Adviser from National Careers Service.

You may be eligible for a concession or help from the Discretionary Learner Support fund – please discuss this with our information, advice and guidance staff. We do not give refunds if you withdraw and you will remain liable for any outstanding instalments.
