Course Overview
This course is for people who have an interest in working in schools or learners who are not yet ready to start a full qualification but want an introductory course to working with children. The aim of the course is to gain a basic knowledge of working with children in a school setting and to provide an introduction to the world of work. It aims to develop learners’ confidence and motivation and prepare for further learning or training.

Open Requirements

This course requires a pre-enrolment interview. Please telephone 0161 770 1383/1239 to arrange an appointment. You will need a good level of literacy to be able to complete some written tasks.

Open Assessment

There is no formal assessment and no examination. You will keep a learner diary or Individual Learning Plan to track your progress and your tutor will give you regular verbal and written feedback which will show you how to improve. This process allows us to discuss your progress from enrolment to completion of the course and helps us to support you to achieve your goals and in planning the next step in your learning. You will receive a certificate of attendance.

Open Progression

There are progression routes onto childcare, teaching assistant courses or social care qualifications. Your tutor will discuss your next steps with you and you will have access to a Careers Adviser from National Careers Service.

The course is subsidised by GMCA – please see our full fees policy available at www.oldham.gov.uk/lifelong. If course fees are more than £70 you can pay by instalment – see the fees policy. You may be eligible for a concession or help from the Discretionary Learner Support fund – please discuss this with our information, advice and guidance staff. We do not give refunds if you withdraw and you will remain liable for any outstanding instalments.
